The Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC)

NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2020:

Gakina Abinoojiiyag
All of the Children

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

April 30, May 1 & May 2, 2020
Winnipeg, Manitoba

SUBMISSION DEADLINE for PROPOSALS: JUNE 14, 2019

Call for Proposals:

The Canadian Association for Young Children (CAYC) invites proposals for the National CAYC Conference to be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 2020. We invite conference proposals that reflect the aims of CAYC and our conference theme, Gakina Abinoojiiyag. All of the Children.

The Canadian Association for Young Children, established in 1974, is the only national association specifically concerned with the well-being of children (birth through age nine), at home, in early learning settings, and at school. The aims of CAYC are to promote contemporary views of young children as competent and capable; and to share current research and practices that promote the well-being of children in early learning and childcare centres, schools, families, and communities.

Context:

Winnipeg, as host to the National Conference, is located on Treaty One territory— the original home of the Anishinaabeg, Ininewak and Anishinin peoples, and homeland of the Métis nation. Importantly, the year 2020 is the 150th Anniversary of Louis Riel negotiating the entry of Manitoba into the Confederacy of Canada. We recognize this moment of Truth and Reconciliation, and the complex and shared relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, alongside settlers and newcomers. CAYC is collaborating with a multitude of local partners to host this exciting national event.

Conference Theme: Gakina Abinoojiiyag. All of the Children.

With guidance from Elders, Barbara and Clarence Nepinak, this national conference must reflect all of the children: “Gakina Abinoojiiyag” (Kah kin nah Ah bin noo gee uk). Gakina Abinoojiiyag means thinking about children who have multiple and complex family situations; and the consideration of children’s parents and families—biological, foster, extended, and heart families. All of the children, means considering the importance, richness and complexity of diversity that all of our children bring to our world.

Conference Participants:

The CAYC National Conference participants will include early childhood educators, teachers, educational leaders, ECE Faculty, policy makers, parents, researchers, social workers, child support providers, clinicians, and community partners.

PROPOSAL Submissions:

CAYC is seeking proposals from educators, caregivers, researchers, health providers, community members, and others who educate and care for young children. Proposals can be made by completing and sending the attached Submission Form to the email provided by June 14, 2019. Proposals will be reviewed by the Program Committee and volunteer reviewers for quality (reflective of CAYC’s aims), variety, and alignment with the conference theme. Presenters whose proposals are accepted will have their conference registration waived and will be invited to share in hospitality and conference events. (Presenters will not be remunerated nor be reimbursed for travel.) You will be notified of the outcome of your submission by August 23, 2019.
